Listening

Do people always listen?  One thing that is certain is that people want to be heard. We all want people to listen to what we have to say, whether they are someone that we know well or not. There can of course be many different topics of conversation,  dependant upon your listeners one subject may be more interesting than another to some. But sometimes when an individual is talking, they can tell that the one they are speaking to is not really listening. It could be that they may have other things upon their minds at that time or it could be that they just are not interested in what is said. Within the Church though, can this or does this happen?  When we speak to other Christians within the Church to which we belong, we should expect them to listen. Also we should also ourselves be prepared to listen to  what people say, it may be that they have a need of either advice or just someone to listen to them.

Apathy

Do you ever encounter Apathy?  This is something which we all know and have  seen many times within our lives. We may have known or know someone who is generally quite apathetic or perhaps extremely so. How many times have you heard someone say of something that many found exciting and adventurous, that it will not work, it cannot be done, it is a waste of time and effort? How often do you think that people that you know well, have actually thought such things? But also if you were honest with yourself, how often have you yourself both thought these things and also spoken them? Within the Church how many times has apathy caused problems which are not at all necessary? But also how often has an event failed because more than one individual  is apathetic regarding the possible results of the event and just how effective it will be? What impact upon others can these apathetic, negative and defeatist spee

Home

Where is your home?  This is a question that has perhaps more than one possible answer. If we are fortunate, in life we begin with a  home with the family which we grow up with. Though the place in which you lived may have changed more than once, yet each new place became your home. Then perhaps you are at or have passed the stage when you move out of your parents house and into a place of your own. This place then becomes your home, yet the previous place where you dwelt still may for a while also feel like home to you. Throughout our lives we may know a good many places that we accept as and welcome as our home. As Christians we know that the obvious answer to the question is that our home is with God in heaven. We look to this, we long for this and we know that someday we will have this home. Yet, though we look ahead for this, what of now? We still have a home here and  we should have more than on

Walks

Where do you walk?  This is something that the majority of us do on a daily basis, we walk. Some may walk to their place of employment, for others it could be to visit a relative or a  close friend. Some also walk for pleasure; they love to walk for enjoyment alone, taking delight in the journey that  they take. Others also walk for exercise, to keep fit, which is of course good for people to do. Still others use walking as a social event; they love to walk with people,  either many or few. Yet, is there always an intended destination, or when people walk do they walk  just to enjoy it? Walking is something that as Christians we understand can be taken in a few ways. This can be seen as actual and also as figurative as well. We may walk to Church, we may walk as we serve the Church in many different ways. But also we have a figurative  walk with the Church as well;  we can walk with the Church following the direction it

Strength

Where is your strength?  Strength is something that we all have in different ways. We all have a certain level of strength, this can be seen as a different thing by people. Strength can be seen as physical strength, this is something which many can and will associate with. Physical strength can be increased through time and effort, which many people do in different ways and methods of which now there are many. Then some can see strength as within their character, who may believe that they have high morals, and  perhaps also a good personality. There are many possibilities of where you may see strength as it can be found in many ways, and  decisions within your life. Within the Church there is strength as the individual members support, help, guide, and encourage each other. When the Church struggles in  this, the strength of the Church cannot be seen, known or felt by the individual members who,

Something New

Do you try anything new?  When a thing is new, it holds interest and can catch the attention of many. Whereas, when something is not new it needs sometimes a new way of doing it, something that will catch peoples' attention once again. What new things catch your attention? This can  be different for many people, a s people have different  interests, likes and dislikes. For some it can be a new car, for others it can be a new house, or possibly  for some it could be a new job. It may also be a new type of food which you have never tasted before, or a new hobby. Perhaps a new television or computer that comes out catches your attention, o r a new film or song that has been released.  Within the Church there can be new things, but also sometimes it can appear that there has not been anything new for some time. It is of course important to bring new things and ideas into the Church, yet also keep at l

Commands

How many commands have you broken? There possibly are quite a  few commands which we have received within our lives. Some of the commands which we may have received though we may not quite take  as a command, or understand that it was  an actual command. In peoples' careers or places of employment, sometimes a command is given to an employee and it may not be seen as such or taken as a request  or suggestion. There are also those who are in authority, such as  politicians or those within the military who also give commands, but these expect to be obeyed. Which of course they  should be, and unless the individual wishes to be reprimanded in  some way, their commands  are followed. Why though within the Church do some not  then follow the same  example, as for example soldiers who follow their commanding officers' commands as they are given. This of course does not refer to members of the  co
